The Final Candidate

So what did we finally decide on?    A 1985 110 Wagon from Western Australia.    We had gone to the most eastern part of the country to look at one so why not WA.  It seemed that there were quite a few for sale in WA.  At the time we looked at this one there were four (including the Orange dual cab) available in WA.

Our new purchase

“85 county in great condition for age.  Disco alloy wheels new tyres, new radiator, belts & hoses. New ARB winch bar, warn winch, new window tint, 4 bolt steering box.”

Ok, sounded alright.  So a few conversations later we arranged for the owner to take it in for a pre-purchased inspection.  Main issue is that we would need to fly over pick up the truck and then drive 4000km straight away to get home.  We needed to know it was possible. Found a what appeared to be a good local Mechanic that could do the inspection.

Inspection report showed most things were ok but picked up issues with slightly low oil pressure, some heater hose replacement needed and brakes (no surprise there for a Land Rover this age).  But it was the contaminated brake fluid that was the major concern.  So after talking with the mechanic, we decided that we could go ahead but would need to get some work done before we came over.

So the trip is on.   We have a great little trip planned to come back across the country.  If we had more time it would be really good, but with work and kids still at school we need to come back as quickly ass possible.  So it will be a flight over, pickup the girl up, visit a couple of mates and then 4000km home.
