So over the past few months we have looked at a variety of potential projects. These include:
Stage One V8 – good condition and a started project, but decided we would look for a coil sprung model.
Brown 1985 County – looked good online and when we spoke to the current owner, but once we had a test drive we realized it needed a fair pit of work, and the empty power steering fluid gave an indication of the maintenance that might have been lacking (had been a QLD rego so no regular checks). We had even arranged an unregistered vehicle permit to drive it home, but given the issues we quickly decided after a drive around the block that it was not going to happen.
Stage One V8 in Tassie – this was a great vehicle and the current owner had done some great work, but as we would be wanting to modify it we didn’t feel like it would be right for this one. leave it for another more dedicated restorer.
1983 Isuzu powered Stage One – a rare model as far as I could find out. But we wanted a V8 Petrol and had by this stage decided that the more comfortable suspension was still a preference.
1986 Bicentenary Dual cab County – We did really like this one. A bit of providence gave it some benefits. We had even decided to buy and headed down to pick it up with a car trailer in tow. We knew it had some work to do and some rust including the firewall. However when we got to look at the old girl the removal of the rear tub and being out in the weather had taken its toll on more of the chassis then we were prepared to take on as a project
County 110 ute – this one looks great and ticks all the boxes if you did not want to do any work. All ready to go and also outside out budget. But has given us lots of ideas.
1988 Defender 110 – 9 seater – we had pretty well decided on another vehicle in WA when this one came up on Gumtree. Looked like it fit the bill. Even had 9 seats as a bonus if we needed to go that way. Arranged a prepurchase inspection (well worth the money at $260) and this was able to give us the details that we could not get due to not being able to see it in the flesh. Anyway what looked good from the photos and discussion ended up needing much more work than we had wanted to do straight up. The owner had spent $3000 getting it registered a few months prior and a fair bit of that work would need to be done again.
